Hi, I’m Ruth Spina—a first-generation American, raised by two incredible parents who came to the U.S. with big dreams and an even bigger love for their roots. They gave me a better life, but they also gave me something just as powerful: a deep connection to where we come from.

Growing up, I spent weekends and holidays surrounded by family, food, laughter, and gardens that seemed to bloom with stories. I watched generations care for the earth with their hands and their hearts—tending to herbs, coaxing plants from dusty soil, and always finding beauty in the mess.

Now that I have kids of my own, I may not always be able to take them back to where it all started—but I can bring those traditions to them. Through stories. Through rituals. And through gardening.

Hot Mess Texas is my way of honoring that energy—the kind that knows how to heal a scraped knee, whip up something delicious from scratch, and breathe life into any patch of dirt. It’s for anyone nurturing something—whether it’s a garden, a home, or a new beginning.
